I came across a wonderful concept yesterday at www.freecycle.org. Their mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.

In short one man's junk is another man's treasure. If you have something you no longer want/need post it to one of their many groups and if anybody wants it they come and collect. If on the other hand you after anything from lawnmower parts to a flat bed scanner surf through the offers and see what's out their.
