The Internet Archive

Inspiration for web design projects comes from many sources, it can be a photograph, a branding element or even a navigational panel you remember seeing on a site a year back. Revisiting sites that have sparked inspiration can sometimes be frustrating if the element you want to review has gone because the site has been redesigned.

Fear not, your inspirational site has not turned into cyber dust thanks to a great system called “The internet archive”. The Internet archive offers a “wayback machine” allowing you to browse through 55 billion web pages archived or cached from 1996, capturing all the designs ever used for a site. So that inspirational element you were looking for is probably there!

Web site content

An important element of web site management is keeping the content fresh. In our case, we frequently update our portfolio to reflect our projects and showcase a recently completed site on our home page as a “featured project”

Fresh content obviously has advantages for returning visitors …giving them new information to read and digest. But fresh content is also something that the search engine appreciate too! A site which is regularly updated is going to rank better than a one which is never updated.

That said check out our web site design and graphic art portfolio which has been updated today.

St Louis web designer: Tip of the week

As a web designer any tool I come across which improves an internet surfing experience, is a good tool.

Take Google ToolBar ..it’s features are many including blocking those annoying pop ups and highlighting search terms, just to name two. It goes down in my book as a good tool.

Download it for free at

St Louis Treasure Network: St Louis web designer find of the week

As a web designer the internet is my friend!

I came across a wonderful concept yesterday at www.freecycle.org. Their mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.

In short one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. If you have something you no longer want/need post it to one of their many groups and if anybody wants it they come and collect. If on the other hand you after anything from lawnmower parts to a flat bed scanner surf through the offers and see what’s out their.

It is a gift network!

Do you have a "home made" logo?

In my years as a graphic/web designer I have had my share of projects where my requirement was to fix what was not working… whether it be a web site full of broken links or a logo which is not in a format suitable for a particular application.

Most of the fixer-up projects currently coming across my desk are “home made logos” Very often I encounter logos that have been created for a particuar application, e.g. a web site where a low resolution design (72dpi) is king. A client wanting to use the logo in print application now ruuns into problems since low resolution is not acceptable. The only option is to re-create the logo.

If you have a home made logo and are running into problems visit us at www.indigoimage.com to see how we can help.

A shape to inspire a St Louis web designer

Is it possible to have a favorite shape? … as a graphic and web designer I certainly think so!
I have long been drawn ( no pun intended!) to spirals ..from celtic knot work, to the beautiful wrought ironwork seen in such abundance in Brussels where I lived for about a year.

Spirals are everywhere in nature too

…on the beach

..in my garden

Inspiring a st louis web designer!
