The day in a life of a web designer.

During a career presentation I made recently to 8th grade students the question arose, “what do you do in a typical day?” Every day is different but to give you a flavor here is what I did yesterday.

  • Put the final touches on a new web site for Helicopter Incorporated: copy and photograph changes. Uploaded site and sent to client for review
  • Worked on a new logo for St Louis Jazz Cafe and submitted two concepts for the client to review. Later followed up by phone to get feedback
  • Created a flash annimated button for a new web site for Outlook Today, incorporated button into site. Uploaded to testing server and emailed client to review. Followed up on client change requests
  • Scheduled a meeting with a new client to discuss the branding of a new business
  • Wrote a post for the blog
  • Worked on new web site for St Louis Woman’s exchange – currently populating the site with copy
  • New Stroco web site: Site is currently in the design phase. Called client to get feedback on progress so far.
  • Scheduled meeting with client looking to outsource web and graphic design services
  • Followed up with exisiting client requiring web site maintneance
  • Dealt with miscellaneous emails
  • Read a few blogs and a new copy of Dynamic Graphics magazine
  • Drank two cups of coffee!
  • This is pretty typical for my day and as you can see it is all about managing multiple projects. I put Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash though their paces.

Eye of a St Louis Web Designer

Is it me or have we had a long winter this year? I am more than ready for spring.
Here is a little burst of fabulous designer spring color from my garden: evidence that winter is over. As a web & graphic designer color can be a great inspiration, I love the contrast of purple and green in this photograph.

Dynamic design for i Google.

A couple of months back I wrote a couple of posts on i Google, Google’s approach to personailzing their interface
Are you using i Google?
New Themes for i google

Google have taken the theme approach one step further and now it is possible to create your own theme to share with the world.

A blogger client recently asked me to create an i google theme to compliment his web site. I put together a dynamic theme which features “Mr Bison” at his computer oblivious to the happening around him. The theme changes 5 times during the day.

I have had some great feedback from users who have installed this theme

“THIS is the kind of creativity we should see in these themes! Thanks for putting some thought into & taking the time to *create* something original! Nice use of colors, too. Outstanding!”

“Great colors . . . easy on the eyes. A super creative theme. Thanks, Zoe Feast, for making my Google a happier place!”

To customize your i google page Click here for the “Mr Bison’s Day” theme.

Eye of a St Louis Web Designer

We were treated to a fabulous “spring like” day yesterday
but are plunged back to the depths of winter today. It will be a few more weeks before we see this sort of color in St Louis. This photograph was taken by my Mum, of a wonerful spring conatiner currently in bloom in her garden..in the UK.
